Measurement-Based: Our Commitment to Accountability

Guyton Counseling Services in The Woodlands, Texas uses Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS) to ensure clinical excellence at every service for our clients

Measurement-Based Care, Routine Outcome Monitoring, or Feedback-Informed treatment, are all names for the same thing: clinical excellence and accountability through measuring a client’s subjective reasons for coming to counseling and their therapeutic alliance with their counselor.

  • Real-Time Progress Tracking: With PCOMS, your progress is reviewed after every session, ensuring therapy stays aligned with your goals.

  • Evidence-Based Decisions: We use measurable data to make informed adjustments to your therapy, tailoring each session to be as effective as possible.

  • Clear, Tangible Results: You'll always know where you stand in your therapy journey, with concrete metrics guiding the process.

  • Psychotherapy research indicates the following:

    • 86% of change in therapy is attributed to client related factors

    • Of the remaining 14% attributed to psychotherapy, the smallest amount of change was attributed to the therapeutic approach or modaility

    • The largest areas of change in therapy, what the therapist and client can control, are attributed to...

      1. The Therapeutic Alliance

      2. Immediate change or action in a client's specifice, subjective desired outcomes from coming to services

Partners for Change Outcome Management System (PCOMS) is an outcome monitoring system created by Dr. Barry Duncan and his colleagues. PCOMS measures two things: a client's desired outcomes from counseling and the therapeutic alliance with the therapist.

GCS is proud to use the Better Outcomes Now software with all clients to ensure clinical quality and effectiveness for every GCS service!

  • The Outcome Rating Scale measures a cient's desired outcomes from coming to therapy. GCS uses this tool at every service to collaborate with you about what you want to be different and how we stay on track towards your desired outcomes.

  • The therapeutic relationship accounts for the largest percentage of change attributed to therapy. The Session Rating Scale (SRS) gives you a voice in how the therapeutic alliance as GCS adapts to your preferences for an effective and tailored therapy service.

What is Measurement-Based Care?

At Guyton Counseling Services (GCS), our Measurement-Based approach ensures that your progress is measurable and visible. We promise to track your journey using PCOMS (Partners for Change Outcome Management System), which provides real-time feedback on how therapy is working for you. This commitment to data-driven care ensures that you receive effective, accountable therapy at every stage.

How it Works

  • Collect a Baseline

At your first service, you will take an Outcome Rating Scale that is directly connected to your subjective, specific differences you seek from coming to counseling.

  • Generate an Estimated Treatment Response (ETR)

Upon recieving your first ORS score, BON's software generates an Estimated Treatment Response (ETR) that indicates to us whether we are on track in our work or whether we need to make adjustments for your care.

  • Monitor Progress

After multiple sessions, we notice that we are following the ETR and you are moving closer towards the differences you are seeking from counseling, indicating a successful and effective treatment episode!

  • Adapting to Preferences

At the end of each session, you complete the Session Rating Scale that determines if your GCS counselor is on the right track in their therapeutic alliance with you. GCS counselors are willing to adapt and change whenever possible to meet your counseling needs and work with you effectively.
